About this consultation

The Ministère de la Santé et des Services sociaux (MSSS) and the Office des personnes handicapées du Québec (OPHQ) invite people with hearing impairments, as well as sign-language interpretation service providers, to share their opinions by answering a questionnaire dealing only with the coverage of interpretation services in the private and community sectors and sectors that are not covered by the government policy on access to documents and public services for people with disabilities.

As part of the process of implementing the Equals in Every Respect: Because Rights are Meant to be Exercised policy, the OPHQ and MSSS are working together to optimize tactile and sign language interpretation services for people with hearing impairments.

The management principles underpinning these services are defined in the normative framework for the payment of tactile and sign language interpretation services, which has been updated.

For optimization work to be carried out, it is important to assess needs and estimate the budget increase required for defraying all costs related to interpretation services in the private and community sectors and sectors that are not covered by the government policy on access to documents and public services for people with disabilities.

The OPHQ and MSSS are therefore conducting this public consultation of people who use tactile and sign language interpretation services and of service providers. The purpose is to obtain their opinion about the coverage of tactile and sign language interpretation service needs in private and community sectors and sectors that are not covered by the policy.
