Telehealth is a consultation or intervention that takes place remotely between a healthcare professional and an individual. It can also be used for monitoring a health condition or clarifying a diagnosis and treatment plan.
Telehealth has existed legally in Québec in 2005 to provide complementary services to traditional practices. Its objectives include increasing access to health services and improving continuity of care.
Since March 2020, telehealth has moved to the forefront due to the pandemic. The ministère de la Santé et des Services sociaux (MSSS) had all necessary technology measures put in place during the crisis so that institutions and professionals could provide continuity of services to the population. Telehealth therefore made it possible to avoid non-essential travel to clinics and healthcare institutions.
The MSSS also integrated telehealth in its strategic plan (in French only) actions to speed up deployment of these services throughout the province.
The MSSS therefore would like to know about the experiences of people who have used these telehealth services in the last 12 months, specifically regarding accessibility to care, interpersonal communication, confidence level, as well as outcomes reported by members of the public. Public involvement in the consultation process will make it possible to improve the deployment of telehealth services in Québec and ensure that telehealth provides quality and patient-focused care.
The consultation will take place March 13 to April 16, 2023. Approximate duration: 10 minutes
