Daylight Savings : For or Against?
Public Consultation
About this consultation
The Ministère de la Justice is gathering input from the Québec population about the daylight savings time change. The utility of the time change has been taken into question by recent studies showing its impact on our health, economy, and daily lives. This survey will help us assess whether to retain or abandon the practice.
Your voice counts! We invite you to fill out this brief five-minute survey and participate in this collective reflection.
Current situation
Let us remember that in most of Quebec, the legal time is Eastern Standard Time (winter time). Every year, on the second Sunday in March, we move the clocks forward to switch to Daylight Saving Time (UTC - 4 hours). Then, on the first Sunday in November, we move the clocks back to return to Standard Time, winter time (UTC - 5 hours).
As for the Maritime Community of the Magdalen Islands and the Listuguj First Nation Reserve, they follow Atlantic Standard Time (UTC - 4 hours) and switch to Atlantic Daylight Time (UTC - 3 hours) in the summer. The MRC of the Gulf of St. Lawrence also follows Atlantic Standard Time, but does not observe daylight saving time.
